I’m seriously hoping this is just advertising changeable clothes and not a whole other figure. If it’s a whole other figure I’ma be pissed (cause it’ll be a while before I can afford it and I ALREADY PRE-ORDERED THE FIRST LOKI FIGURE, I WANNA BE ABLE TO SAVE UP AND GET THOR DAMN-IT)

I WANT TO CUSTOMIZE MY LOKI LIKE THIS OMG.

So I’ve blogged about the actual process of getting my tattoo, but I haven’t talked about the importance of it yet. There’s this idea that your first tattoo has to mean a lot, and I totally played into that.
Sailor Moon was the first show I was super into. I mean record that shit on VHS every day Sailor Moon sheets Sailor Moon pajamas all Sailor Moon everything. But I think there’s a lot more going on that than. As I’ve grown older, I’ve realized Sailor Moon really helped empower me as a young girl. I was taught it was ok to be as sassy as Rei, as smart as Amy, as strong as Lita, and as carefree and fun as Mina. Serena taught me the value of friendship and wow did that really stick with me.
In reality, Sailor Moon was probably my introduction to a lot of feminist ideas. That I can fight and still be feminine. That sometimes the girl saves the guy. Sometimes you can be a bad ass at fighting and also a fantastic cook. Essentially, Sailor Moon taught me I don’t have to meet traditional gender roles. That’s something that has been and will be really important to me for the rest of my life. When I look at my tattoo it reminds me that I can be a badass in the woodshop and make these large sculptures and do this while wearing sparkly pink flats and a lace skirt. That might be a trivial thing, but when you’re in a male dominated space sometimes you need a reminder that what you’re doing is ok and valid and in an odd way my tattoo does this.
I also got this tattoo on the arm I used to self harm on. It’s been years since I’ve done it, and most of the scars have faded, but I think it was really important that my first tattoo was here, on this spot that has a really weird personal context. Recovery is a lifelong thing, and this tattoo feels like a milestone in that process. I’ve taken something that used to be really negative, and turned it into a spot of strength. I don’t think I’m entirely ready to talk about the in depth, but I think it was at least worth mentioning.
